Jennifer Liston Munson’s work creates lenses for the viewer to look in and for the subjects themselves to look back out. Her selection of art objects, ghostly figures, and landscapes call into question historical collection practices, the complexity of narratives, and the notion of belonging. Images of objects held in museum collections, photographs of unknown relatives, and abandoned interiors are buried in lucite layers as if to hold them time.

Recent paintings on plaster recall stone surfaces of ancient walls, Modernist architecture, and the patina of art objects she has encountered over time. Layers of paint are sanded back to chart the memory of place embedded through her experience of the contemporary world.
